Bethenny Frankel has found her next philanthropic pursuit. The Real Housewives of New York City entrepreneur landed in the Boston-area Newton-Wellesley Hospital this week due to a severe shellfish allergy reaction — which, thankfully, was resolved and she’s on the mend — but during her stay, she discovered first-hand how uncomfortable the establishment’s beds were. For anyone who’s found themselves in a hospital recently, you’re likely thinking, “This! Yes!” Because let’s face it, most hospitals in this country are under-funded and woefully in need of floor-to-ceiling upgrades, beds being chief among the many concerns.
Among several Tweets to her 1.6 million followers, Bethenny first gave a shout out to Casper, hinting that she’d like the brand to pony up some new mattresses for the hospital. Bethenny wrote, “Of course my next project is to get them new mattresses from @Casper bc they have no budget for TVs or comfortable beds :( for really sick people.” When Casper apparently let Bethenny know they weren’t able to contribute, she Tweeted again, detailing the specifics of her ask … did we mention that this lady is ALL business, even when Tweeting from the hospital?
“Well @Casper said they can’t help with mattresses for @newtonwellesley so if anyone else has a mattress contact, please let me know. The number in total is approx 200 twin mattresses or even those comfortable pillow tops. They also need pillows & linens. Thanks @ikea ???”
Within hours, two big brands responded offering their help. First up was Wayfair, which has its global headquarters in Boston. Home & Design talked to the brand and they told us that they’re currently in talks with Bethenny’s team and would love to support a hospital so close to home. “Hi Bethenny, we’re so glad to hear you’re OK. We‘re globally headquartered in Boston and would like to support our local hospital,” Wayfair Tweeted.
We here at Home & Design love a lot of things – soft-as-butter sheets, a sleek armchair, a rug that works in any room, to name a few — but truly, what lights our fire is when big brands give back. Feel the same way? Then support these charitable businesses! Check out our reviews of the Wayfair Nora and Leesa mattresses below, and considering buying one for yourself this winter.
Wayfair's Nora is a four-layer premium mattress designed exclusively for the mega e-tailer. Thicker than most of its competition — Nora comes in at 12-inches — the mattress is also super plush thanks to two layers of gel-infused memory foam, followed by a 3-inch layer of comfort foam that regulates temperature (Read: Keeps you cool), and two more layers of 3.5-inch high-density support foam that relieves pressure and provides support. The jade-infused cover is a nice touch … literally! It’s super soft and actually cool to the touch, thanks to jade’s natural cooling properties. Bonus: Financing options are available when you sign up for a Wayfair credit card.

Sapira by Leesa Mattress
Dubbed the only “luxury” mattress in a box — we were skeptical. That is, until we slept on the Sapira. Pure. Bliss. Comprised of five layers — 1.5-inches of cooling, high density foam, 1.5 –inches of pressure-relieving memory foam and 1,000 pocket springs that are encapsulated between two 1-inch top and bottom layers of high-resiliency stabilizing foam — this CertiPUR-US-certified mattress is cool, supportive and seemingly contours to your body (and your many sleeping positions). And it’s the only one on the list that has springs and comes in a box. Feel good bonus: Each mattress is 100% American-made and Leesa donates one mattress for every 10 sold, and plants one tree for every mattress sold.
RETURN POLICY: 100-night sleep policy 10-year warranty; Leesa will pick up the mattress if you’re not satisfied.
