Let’s just let these two bro it out in peace. No, they’re not dating.
The Watch What Happens Live With Andy Cohen host talked about his relationship status to CNN this week, addressing rumors that he and John Mayer are in love — and they are ... but as friends.
And he’s heard it all before.
“I think that I was not surprised because we also have a great love for each other. So, it just seems like the obvious assumption,” Andy said.
But when asked what qualities he was looking for in a partner (the talk host is currently single), Andy did have a sense of humor: “Someone who is like John Mayer,” he joked.
“Just kidding. What am I looking for? I'm looking for someone strong, independent, smart, who has their own thing going on,” he said. “I don't care, I'm not looking for someone who is in entertainment.”
Andy split from his Harvard PhD student boyfriend Clifton Dassuncao, 30, in March.
Meanwhile, John was there to help his pal get over the breakup. For Andy’s recent 50th birthday celebration episode of WWHL, John serenaded him with Diana Ross’s It’s My House.
John remains heterosexual — and loves dating famous women. His list of exes includes Katy Perry, Jennifer Aniston, Taylor Swift, Jessica Simpson, and Minka Kelly.
Bromances do fill an emotional need for men though. A 2017 study states that men get more emotional satisfaction out of bromances than they do out of romantic relationships with women.
“The lack of boundaries and judgment in a bromance is expressed as emotionally rivaling the benefits of a heterosexual romance. Our participants mostly determined that a bromance offered them elevated emotional stability, enhanced emotional disclosure, social fulfillment, and better conflict resolution, compared to the emotional lives they shared with girlfriends.”
