This week the Northeast was hit by yet another Nor’easter and that can only mean one thing: our be-sweatered dogs were denied lengthy walks once again. Don’t get us wrong, we love walking our furry friends but when there’s sleet or thundersnow we can’t be expected to trudge out into the elements for an hour, right? THUNDERSNOW!? Come on!
Since our dog's poop strike is now off (as most of the snow has already melted here in NYC), we can take solace in the fact that we are not alone in our walk-skipping guilt. According to the people at Rover.com, the nation’s largest network for 5-star pet sitters and dog walkers, out of the 1,500 American pet owners surveyed an overwhelming 66 percent feel guilty for skipping a dog walk. And we’re not alone in our excuses either; the most commonly sited excuse for a missed dog walk is that it’s too cold outside, stated by 57 percent of respondents.
But we are burying the lede, much like the snowdrifts almost buried our beloved pooch — the most shocking fact stated in the survey was that almost one in five dog owners are motivated to walk their dogs in order to get their daily doggie selfie. The stats are higher in New York where 27 percent of those surveyed say their main motivation in taking their dog for a stroll around the neighborhood is to get a daily pup snap. Interestingly, it’s men leading the charge on dog walk-based selfies — which makes us wonder, where are these dudes posing for impromptu photo shoots with their dogs when we're walking? And are they single?
But we digress. Whether you walk your dog for the love of your pup or strictly for the ‘gram (but most likely a combo of both) we all can agree on the fact that these super cute #DogWalkSelfies are definitely worth a trip outside in any weather!
