Luann de Lesseps: Experiencing This Trip Sober Is Strange

The journey I’m on isn’t easy, and sometimes it’s the little things — like having to stay in the fish room year after year — that can set me off.

Honoring the past is important but holding onto it for dear life isn’t a good look for any of us. This episode we are still in the Bezerkshires, and it’s strange to experience this trip sober. The journey I’m on isn’t easy, and sometimes it’s the little things — like having to stay in the fish room year after year — that can set me off. Tinsley was kind enough to give me her room. Thank you, Tins! Dorinda ended up giving Barb the fish room, which is only fair since she showed up last. I guess I’m not the only shark-phobic guest. If this were my first time staying in Dorinda’s house, I would have taken the room and kept quiet like I did in years past.

Dorinda thought that an excursion to Ventfort Hall, an old Morgan family estate, would be fun for us, and it was. Sonja is very proud of her daughter’s lineage, yet she went overboard on Dorinda touching the letters. We get it that protecting historical documents is important, but I’d rather be a snatch guard than a letter guard for Sonja! She’s way more fun on the dance floor!

Without the rosé, I’m more in touch with my emotions. I was truly moved when Tinsley shared how my sobriety brings up memories of her father’s alcoholism. For many years, she’s held onto the belief that he chose drinking over her family, and I can’t imagine the pain this has caused her. I reminded her that alcoholism is a disease of the mind, and just like other chronic diseases, it must be treated daily. This is why I offered to attend Alanon with her. We could both benefit from going since we know the toll this disease takes on a family. I’m here for her, and I’m glad she’s there for me.

Ultimately, I really appreciate that Dorinda didn’t give up on us. I love our friendship, and I’m glad we are back on track.
