In a shocking revelation to The Real Housewives of Dallas viewers, Stephanie Hollman recently admitted that she had attempted suicide at the age of 22. (Watch the clip above to see the raw moment.) While seated at a dinner party with LeeAnne Locken — who has also battled with depression — Hollman confessed that she had "wanted to feel seen."
Later, she said in her confessional: "I was with a guy for a while; we broke up. I felt very alone. I felt like I didn't have a lot of friends, because I lost a lot of my friends during my breakup. And I just wanted a way out." It was a brave, unexpected confession from the Dallas mom, and she recently opened up to People about the aftermath of her bombshell statement.
"It was the scariest thing I've ever shared," she told People Now. "But, it was also the most amazing thing because I never dealt with that time. I was so shameful and I never talked about it. That week I never cried so much when it came out. But I also never healed so much in my life. I really came to terms with what happened at that time in my life, and I kind of mourned what ... I went through when I was 22."
Stephanie was also gratified when fans reached out to her to share what her admission meant to them. "One person said that they had written their suicide note and they decided not to [do it], so I feel like that was very powerful. And so many people shared the story of their struggle with depression and suicide attempt. So, it was amazing." She later added that each of her fellow Dallas 'Wives had reached out after seeing her confession with words of support.
When asked to share advice for anyone who's currently suffering with depression, Stephanie had this to say: "Whenever you're in it, you just see what's happening right now, but you don't see weeks ahead or years ahead. I feel like if you hold on sometimes, the biggest struggles in your life, on the other side, are the greatest blessings."
