Issa Rae on The ‘Insecure’ Emmy Snub

When the 2017 Emmy nominations were announced last week, there was one show that didn't make the cut. That show was Issa Rae's acclaimed HBO series, Insecure, and the internet quickly took note of the snub. When the show's creator and star herself stopped by Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen on Tuesday, she shared if she, too, felt disappointed by the lack of noms.

"It would have been great for the exposure of the show, but I was over it after a minute," Issa said. "So I was like we really stand behind this second season. We're really excited about it and, you know, motivates us to work harder to get noted.”

With Insecure's sophomore season slated to kick off Sunday, Issa has been making the rounds to promote it and shared a similar sentiment with The Wrap when speaking about not being nominated at the Emmy Awards. "I get it. There’s just so much good, good TV out there. The fact that we were being considered in the first place, it was already like, ‘This is dope,'” she said, adding, "All I could think was how dope it would have been and how great it would have been for the exposure of the show because I feel like more and more people are slowly becoming aware about our show. And then when you get nominated for an Emmy, obviously more people pay attention — it sort of fast-tracks it. So for that alone, I was bummed.”
