This season of Girlfriends' Guide to Divorce is the beginning of the end for Abby McCarthy and her besties. Filming on Seasons 4 and 5 wrapped in March, and the cast gave us a sneak peek of the emotional final moments on social media.
Of course, it wasn't easy for the cast to say goodbye to the beloved series after five seasons. "Ugh, I mean, it was just so emotional," Beau Garrett, who plays free-spirited optimist Phoebe on the show, recently told The Daily Dish. "So saying goodbye was really emotional and the last scene they had it so all four of us were in the scene, which was really special."
But it wasn't until the cast heard "cut" when tears really started flowing. "And when we were done, we had this tradition of randomly singing 'Happy Birthday' on our set. Like, if someone screwed up, like a light went out or someone made a really good decision to save time or a new person walked on the set, all of a sudden, there'd be this round of 'Happy Birthday.' It would stop everything, and it was like the best thing I'd ever experienced," Beau explained. "And so as soon as we were done, we were kind of emotional, looking at each other, all of a sudden, you heard 'Haaaaaaa.' And we were like, 'Oh my God!' And they sang this beautiful version of 'Happy Birthday,' and they brought flowers out for us. And we were just bawling. It was just sad. It's really sad to say goodbye to people like that that you love. I mean, I think everyone was ready in some regard to move forward with something else. But yeah, it was emotional."
Beau also had her own parting gift for GG2D's cast and crew. She helped to create something of a yearbook to commemorate all of the people and memories made while filming the show's five seasons. And yes, the cast and crew did sign it like it was the last day of school. "I didn't think doing it that it would be as impactful as it was. But afterwards I had people coming up to me crying, just so grateful for the gifts," Beau said. "And I still look at it, and I'm like, 'Oh, man. It's just everybody.' So it's beautiful. So that was the coolest thing."
Luckily, Beau will not only always have a piece of GG2D in her heart, but she'll also always have some of it physically in her home. There was "a massive estate sale" held on GG2D's set in Vancouver, Canada after filming on the series wrapped, and Beau scored some Moroccan poufs from Phoebe's home, as well as some clothing from her character's closet. "Within six hours, my entire home that we've had for five seasons is gone. It was very emotional. It was already emotional saying goodbye, but then seeing these sets that you've lived in just disappear was so strange," Beau shared. "But I have some of it in my house, which is really nice, like I have a few of Phoebe's mugs, things that will always be with me that kind of hold onto the stories, you know, through those things."
Though Beau is currently filming her next project, a new series called The Good Doctor, in Vancouver, she said she still reminisces about all of the good GG2D times today. "I'm in Canada shooting a show, and it's the weirdest thing ever to be back in Vancouver and shoot a different show. Like, I see my crew and my family everywhere. You know, it's very strange to be on a different set," she said. "And I will always miss it. I will always miss that experience. We got to tell stories that we all relate to, and I'm gonna miss being able to tell those stories as well."
