Some showing off on social media is de rigueur when it comes to vacation photos. (And for some, it's even the whole raison d'etre for travel). Indeed, there is no better platform to do that than Instagram, where scenes showing perfectly plandid poses, impeccable wardrobe, and stunning scenery make for endless scrolling under the influence of FOMO.
Among such wanderlust-inducing Instagram users is Pretty Little Liars' Shay Mitchell, who has made a name for herself on the platform and YouTube as somewhat of a travel expert with incredible content to share on the regular. But is it legit?
Eagle-eyed followers are claiming the images she's been posting were stolen from the Internet.
The website Stylecaster first noticed a few strange things and made reports of fakery, claiming "receipts" to prove it. Over the weekend, Mitchell posted some shots from Hong Kong on her Instagram stories and those looking close enough can plainly see on one a little black mouse cursor on the image. When Stylecaster investigated, they found the image came from Canon's website, and her image and the brand's had the same camera settings.
Stylecaster also noted a shot of lovely pastel buildings, which Mitchell tagged as Hong Kong (and has since removed the tag). The reporting found the same image from photographer Jan Vranovský — and it's actually a street in Tokyo. And the apparent evidence appears to go on and on. (Head on over to Stylecaster for more.)
Mitchell's last few images have have captions pointing out the fact she's aware of the rumors.
