It may not rank among the biggest celebrity chef scandals of all time, but it amounted to a very bad day for one major Las Vegas casino-resort chef whose illegal plan did not pan out.

Alex Hernandez, a cook at the Strip's famous Bellagio Las Vegas has been charged with stealing 25 lobster tails from his workplace. Valued at about $75 each, the combined cost of the goods amounted to about $1,875.

The casino's security staff called Metro police after they spotted Hernandez putting the lobsters in his backpack and walking out the back door, according to a Fox 5 Vegas report. Now facing one count of embezzlement, he was arrested on Monday with bail set at $5,000.

A spokesperson for MGM Resorts told Fox 5 they were assisting police with their investigation into the case, which we can presume was probably not even the most unusual thing to happen in Las Vegas that day.
